The Pertinents
- Bia Hoi Pubs
- Everywhere (almost literally) in Vietnam. Our favourite is at 50 Bat Dan Street in the Old Quarter of Hanoi
- Founded whenever beer was first made in Vietnam (probably like 5,000 years ago)
The Pub
It’s just a local place for beer and cheap food. You’ll sit among the taxi drivers, uncles, and young families coming back from tennis practice at tiny tables. As soon as you walk in, they will provide glasses of fresh beer. It’s rice-based, 3%-ish lager and goes down easy in the heat.
You can order food from the kitchen, but don’t get all fancy and uppity. This is a down-and-dirty local pub and it’s not geared toward tourists so deal with it. The food is great and cheap. The beers, by the way, cost 10,000 vietnamese dong (44 US cents).
Have a great time. We couldn’t stop going back.
